DEVELOPING OF SCIENCE LEARNING MATERIAL ON LOWER CLASS OF ELEMENTARY STUDENTS: INTEGRATING WITH ANOTHER SUBJECT

Integrating science concepts with other subjects is one of prominent problems on lower class of elementary teaching. However, the integrating methods implemented on learning material and its effectiveness in improving student’s achievements is less studied. The objective of the research is to develop science learning material integrated with another subject by thematic approach that can improve student’s achievements. The learning materials developed are students book and assessment instruments. The learning materials have been developed with four-D models, i.e. define, design, develop, and disseminate. Implementation of the four-D model were: a) competency analysis on all subjects in semester one on first grade elementary school and obtaining the theme; b) developing students book and assessment instruments appropriate with the theme; c) validation; and d) try out. Science concepts are integrated with other subjects by themes: I, environment, needs, and hobbies. The result showed, that learning material: a) be “good” on contents, performance, language, learning innovation; b) responded positive by students and teacher, and c) can improve students achievement on science as well as the other subject.
